Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has proposed a significant increase in user development fees (UDF) for passengers arriving at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. In addition to the existing departure fee, DIAL suggests implementing UDF for incoming passengers, with the fees varying based on flight timings and class of travel. This approach aims to avoid a blanket price hike while supporting DIAL’s expansion and development plans.
The proposal includes a substantial increase in the current UDF for departing passengers, which stands at approximately INR 52. DIAL has suggested raising this fee to INR 610, representing a 1,073% increase, or as high as Rs 1,620, excluding taxes, a 3,015% hike. In addition to UDF, other aeronautical charges, including landing and parking fees for airlines, are also set for hikes. These changes are part of a new tariff card that DIAL has submitted to the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) for review and approval.
AERA will assess these proposed charges before making any final decisions. The revised fees would impact both airlines and passengers, with the aim of funding necessary infrastructure upgrades and airport expansion projects. This initiative by DIAL is designed to improve passenger facilities and meet the growing demand for air travel at one of the busiest airports in India.
The proposed charges come at a time when Delhi Airport is preparing for future growth and needs investments to handle increasing passenger traffic. The rise in UDF, along with changes to aeronautical fees, marks an important step toward meeting the financial needs of the airport’s ongoing development.
