The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a work order to a Russian firm for constructing a new civil enclave at Bihta Air Force station near Patna. The Joint Stock Company Industrial Association Vozrozhdenie will develop an integrated terminal, utility building, elevated road, electro-mechanical systems, and IT infrastructure. The total project cost is INR 459 crore, which is 30% less than the estimated INR 665 crore.
The AAI has instructed the Russian company to submit proposals from three design consultants within 10 days. Following a technical evaluation, a final consultant will be selected. The project’s tender process was completed after financial bids were opened in December 2024. Eleven firms had submitted bids for the civil construction work.
The Bihta civil enclave aims to ease passenger congestion at Patna’s Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport and improve regional air connectivity. Once operational, the airport will accommodate 3,000 passengers at a time, feature 10 aircraft parking bays, and support aircraft like the A-321, B-737-800, and A-320. Runway extension plans will bring its length to 3,700 meters.
Scheduled for completion by 2027, the project is expected to drive economic and industrial growth in Bihar.
