Frankfurt has emerged as a top destination for Indian travellers, with a significant rise in Indian outbound tourism to the city in 2024. Over 200,000 Indian tourists visit Germany annually, with Frankfurt as the key entry point. The trend is expected to continue in 2025, with an anticipated 10% growth in Indian arrivals, driven by strong air connectivity, business relations, and Frankfurt’s cultural appeal. With over 70 direct flights per week from India, major airlines like Lufthansa and Air India have recorded a 15% annual increase in demand for Frankfurt-Delhi and Frankfurt-Mumbai routes.
The tourism sector in Frankfurt saw impressive growth in 2024, with visitor numbers increasing from 32,082 in 2023 to 42,061 in 2024. Overnight stays rose by 24% to 101,754, with a 9.5% increase in arrivals from January to August. Business travelers boosted numbers in October and November, while December remains a peak month due to Frankfurt’s famous Christmas market. Frankfurt ranked fourth in Germany for overall overnight stays and third for international visitors, reaffirming its position as a top global tourism hub.
To further attract Indian visitors, the Frankfurt tourism board has launched targeted campaigns, participating in Indian travel trade events like OTR. Collaborating with Indian travel agents and tour operators, Frankfurt has introduced customised travel packages, highlighting museums, cultural attractions, and major festivals. The city is also expanding luxury tourism offerings, catering to the growing demand for premium hospitality, Michelin-starred dining, and bespoke experiences tailored for Indian travellers.
Looking ahead, Frankfurt expects a 25-30% rise in Indian luxury travelers over the next five years, solidifying its reputation as a leading European destination. With a strategic focus on upscale tourism and seamless connectivity, Frankfurt is set to enhance its appeal among Indian tourists, offering a blend of heritage, business opportunities, and premium leisure experiences.
