Hindon Airport, NCR’s second operational airport, is set for a major upgrade with the launch of daily flights to Kolkata starting March 1. Air India Express, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, will be the first airline to operate jet-engine aircraft from Hindon, enhancing connectivity for travellers in East and Central Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. The airport, initially developed under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, had faced a temporary closure due to low demand but is now making a strong comeback.
The new Kolkata-Hindon flight will depart at 7:10 AM, reaching Hindon at 9:30 AM, while the return flight at 5:20 PM will land in Kolkata by 7:40 PM. This service will operate six days a week, except on Saturdays. Additionally, Hindon’s Civil Enclave, managed by AAI with air traffic control provided by the Indian Air Force, is expected to provide a seamless experience for passengers seeking an alternative to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
This expansion marks a significant step in making Hindon a viable alternative aviation hub in NCR. Besides Kolkata, plans are in place to connect Hindon to Goa and Bengaluru, further increasing its importance in India’s domestic aviation network. With six daily flights from each new destination, Hindon is set to witness a surge in passenger traffic.
The delayed launch of Kolkata-Hindon flights, originally planned for August last year, finally sees realisation, reinforcing Air India Express’s commitment to expanding connectivity. With 14 direct destinations already covered from Kolkata, including Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, Hindon’s addition marks an important milestone in regional air travel.
