Tourists travelling along NH 717A can now capture breathtaking views from designated viewpoints near the Loop Bridge at Bagrakote. The Kalimpong district administration has identified two official stopping points for photography, ensuring visitor safety while preserving smooth traffic flow. Previously, halting on the bridge was restricted due to ongoing construction and rising accident risks.
Known for its unique snake-like design, the Loop Bridge stands 41 meters high in the Kalimpong hills and is locally called the ‘sell roti’ bridge. Due to its growing popularity, officials have also identified eight additional convenience points along NH 717A for tourists to relax and enjoy the scenic landscape. These designated stops aim to enhance tourism while preventing congestion on the bridge itself.
Kalimpong District Magistrate Balasubramanian T emphasised the importance of balancing safety with tourism growth. “We have conducted an initial survey and are awaiting feedback from NHIDCL before finalising the viewpoints. These stops will offer safe photography spots while maintaining traffic discipline on the under-construction bridge,” he stated.
With its spectacular views of the hills and valleys, the Loop Bridge is set to boost local tourism and stimulate economic growth. The new viewpoints will provide visitors with a memorable travel experience while ensuring road safety remains a priority.
